Healthy Smiles for National Children’s Dental Health Month

February is National Children’s Dental Health Month! This month is all about promoting the benefits of good oral health to children, their caregivers, teachers and many others. Some of our doctors and team members are using this opportunity to visit local schools to help educate!

As we’ve addressed before, it is a common misconception that children’s baby teeth are less important than permanent teeth because they will eventually fall out. But this isn’t the case! It’s just as important to care for baby teeth as it is adult teeth, because doing so can help prevent mouth pain and problems with their adult teeth once they come in.

Tips for Keeping Your Child’s Smile Healthy

According to the American Dental Association (ADA), following these tips can help keep your child’s smile healthy:

    • Brush your child’s teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste.
    • Floss your child’s teeth daily.
    • Provide healthy food options for your child and limit sugary beverages.
    • See your child’s dentist at least twice a year.

The ADA also offers fun coloring sheets and resources free for download that parents can use to help their children learn about their smile! Find these resources here
