Dr. Naurine Shah is from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. She attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham for her postgraduate degree in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics and received her Bachelor of Dental Surgery from Baqai University in Karachi Pakistan. Dr. Shah is a certified orofacial myologist with an interest in myofunctional orthodontics. She is passionate about working with the oro-facial muscles to prevent sleep-disordered breathing and growth disorders by addressing functional issues like incorrect swallowing and mouth breathing.
Dr. Shah was influenced by her experiences with relapse of orthodontic treatment, which made her realize she needed to pursue orthodontics as a career so she could treat the cause and not just the symptoms of crooked teeth. Her main focus is helping patients eat, drink, breathe, sleep better and prevent relapse for life. Dr. Shah was on the board of directors for the International Association of Oral Myology and has helped mentor numerous speech pathologists and hygienists in the field of orofacial myology. She has taken various advanced courses in oro-facial myology and has lectured both in the U.S. and Canada for over 12 years. She is a member of IAOM, AOMT, ADA and AOA.
Dr. Shah is a die-hard NHL fan and her favorite team is the Calgary Flames. She loves trying new foods, hiking, reading and watching mystery movies. She also has two children —Dayyan, 18, and Annya, 15.
